Starting your first Barre Stretch class is exciting, and coming prepared will help you feel confident and ready to move. At Heels by Iryna in Calgary’s East Village ( Second Location), our Barre Stretch program is designed exclusively for women, blending the strength of barre training with the restorative power of stretching. To set you up for success, here’s a quick guide on what to bring and wear.

Comfortable Activewear
Barre Stretch is all about precise, controlled movement, so wear fitted activewear that lets you move freely. Leggings or dance tights paired with a supportive tank or top are perfect. Avoid overly loose clothing - your instructor will want to check your alignment to help keep you safe and maximize results.
Grip Socks or Barefoot
Many women prefer grip socks for barre because they provide extra traction and stability on smooth studio floors. If you don’t have them, barefoot works too. Just avoid slippery socks, as they can make it harder to hold your balance during barre sequences.
Yoga Mat (Optional)
We provide mats at the studio, but if you prefer using your own, feel free to bring it. A mat adds comfort during floor stretches and core work.
Water Bottle
Barre Stretch may look graceful, but it’s still a serious workout. You’ll sweat as you pulse, hold, and stretch, so bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout class.
Small Towel
It’s always handy to have a towel nearby, especially during more intense barre sequences. It also doubles as support during certain stretches if you need a little extra help.
Positive Mindset
Most importantly, bring an open mind and a positive attitude. Barre Stretch is about progress, not perfection. You’ll feel your muscles working in new ways, and with every class, your flexibility, posture, and strength will improve. Remember: every dancer starts somewhere.
Why Women Love Barre Stretch
Barre Stretch isn’t just a workout - it’s a full-body reset. Barre strengthens your glutes, thighs, and core while improving posture, while stretching lengthens muscles, increases flexibility, and helps you recover. Together, they sculpt your body, lift your mood, and leave you feeling empowered. Over time, you’ll notice a snatched waistline, stronger legs, a lifted booty, and the confidence that comes from moving with ease.
